Oromocto Professional Firefighters had a large turn-out last Tuesday night in council chambers as association President Brian Ferguson
and association vice-president Andrew Hawkes presented the union's findings on the department's excessive overtime expenditures for
the budget year 2009. In its' presentation, Vice president Hawkes informed town council that the department's overtime expenditures
were in excess of $300,000 for the year due to a staffing shortage within the department.
"Using a detailed analysis of the overtime expenditures, we were able to illustrate to council how much they could have saved if
the department had maintained proper staffing levels throughout the year" said vice-president Hawkes.

The Oromocto Firefighters along with firefighters and police officers from Fredericton have joined forces to help
Gerry O’Leary’s organization, Manna Care, fill five sea containers with much needed clothing and items for the people of Haiti.
Once filled, these sea containers will be shipped to Jacmel, Haiti. Jacmel has a population of over 80,000 and was devastated as
a result of the earthquake. Additionally, there is an expected huge inflow of refugees from Port au Prince.
Manna Care wants to fill each sea container with good quality summer clothing and shoes (of all sizes), non perishable food items,
as well as most baby items such as diapers, formula, and clothing. Please, no toys.
Drop off locations have been set up in the Fredericton and Oromocto at the following locations:
- Oromocto Fire Station #1 on Miramichi Road
- All City of Fredericton Fire Stations
- The Fredericton Police Department
- Fredericton Police Neighborhood Action Team Offices at 30 Hughes Street and at 643 MacLeod Avenue
- Nubodys, Brookside Mall & Queen Street locations
Please support our effort in gathering some much needed supplies for the men, women and children of Haiti!
