January 1, 1959 was the beginning of the Career fire department in the town of Oromocto. This was mainly due to the opening of Canadian Forces Base Gagetown and the large influx in population that came with it. It was decided that the volunteer department that was in place to protect the small town would not suffice and were subsequently disbanded.
Six years later on September 13, 1965 the IAFF granted affiliation to the Oromcoto Fire Fighters Association Local No. 1576.
The men who forged this great venture and named on the original Certificate of Affiliation are as follows:
- Frederic Williams
- Vincent McGann
- Calvin Davidson
- William Delucry
- Charles Mannette
- Edward Spinney
- Angus Phillips
- Arthur Hughes
- George Phillips
- Robert Woods
- Frank Webb
- Douglas Howland
- Reginald LeGassie
- Frank Hallihan
In the beginning of the union movement in Oromocto, not all of the fire fighters working were comfortable joining the local but over time that has changed to where all career fire fighters in the town of Oromocto are proud members of IAFF Local 1576.
